Sridevi also known as Sreedevi Ayyapan, was born on August 13, 1963 in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. She is an Indian actress who has starred in hundreds of Tamil,Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam films and is known as one of the most talented and successful actresses in Kollywood, Tollywood and Bollywood. Sridevi started her career as a child actor in the 1967 Tamil movie Kandhan Karunai playing the role of young Lord Muruga and acted in many Tamil and Telugu movies from then on. Thunaivan was her first movie but released next to Kandhan Karunai. During her early teens, she acted in a number of Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam movies as a lead actress. In 1976, Sridevi got her first big break as heroine in K. Balachander’s Parallel Cinema Moondru Mudichu, where she starred opposite rising stars, Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan. She then followed with a succession of films with both Haasan and Rajnikanth. With the former, she was in movies such as Guru, Sankarlal, Sigappu Rojakkal, Thaayillamal Naan Illai, Meendum Kokila, Vazhvey Maayam, Varumayin Niram Sigappu, Neela Malargal, Moondram Pirai and 16 Vayathinile and with Rajnikanth, she appeared in movies such as Gayathri, Dharma Yuddham, Priya, Johnny, Ranuva Veeran, Pokkiri Raja, Thanikattu Raja, Adutha Varisu and Naan Adimai Illai. At the same time, Sridevi started acting in Telugu movies, a number of which were made by K. Raghavendra Rao. With N. T. Rama Rao, she acted in movies such as Konda Veeti Simham, Vetagadu, Sardar Paparayudu and Bobbili Puli. With A. Nageswara Rao, she appeared in movies such as Mudulla Koduku, Premabhishekham, Bangaru Kanku and Premakanuka. With Krishna, she acted in movies such as Kanchu Kagada, Kalavari Samsaram, Krishnavatharam, Burripalem Bolludu, and Khaidi Rudrayya. Towards the tail end of her Telugu film career, Sridevi started acting in Hindi movies. Many of these initial movies starred Jeetendra and were remakes of her Telugu movies, mostly directed by K. Raghavendra Rao and K. Bappaiah. In 1978, she starred in her first Hindi film, Solva Saawan. In her second movie, Himmatwala, she starred opposite Jeetendra. The film went on to be a blockbuster and established Sridevi as a star in Bollywood. The Jeetendra Sridevi pair also delivered more hits like Tohfa, Mawaali and Justice Chaudhury. Her rain dance in Mr India is often cited as the most erotic dance number of Bollywood. In 1988′s Chaalbaaz, she played a double role as twin sisters which won her the first Hindi Filmfare Best Actress Award. The same year, Sridevi also received a nomination for Yash Chopra’s blocbuster hit Chandni. The songs and dances of the film became a rage while Sridevi’s white costumes started a trend called the Chandni Look in North India. Chopra again directed her in 1991′s Lamhe, where she plays a double-role act as mother and daughter. Often called a modern classic, Lamhe won her a second Hindi Filmfare Best Actress Award. Sridevi also developed passion for painting which has since brought her foreign attention. In March 2010, her paintings have been chosen by a reputed international art auction house. The auction was set to start in April 2010, and all the money raised has been donated. 2) Vadlapatla Ramadevi A native of Eluru in West Godavari, Ramadevi was the first lady of that State to secure a post-graduate degree in law. A social worker and announcer with the All India Radio for a while, she was also the Acting Chief Election Commissioner of India, a member-secretary of the Law Commission and the Secretary-General of the Rajya Sabha before being appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh (1997-1999) .. Governor of Karnataka (1999 – 2005). Her husband, V S Ramavatar, is a retired Chief Engineer of the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) of India. Ramadevi has two daughters, a son and six grandchildren. 3) Vasireddi Akhilandeswari She was born on 1917, resident of Chebrolu, Guntur district. She took part in the Individual Satyagraha Movement, but was not arrested. She participated in the Quit India Movement and suffered 16 months R.I from 10-9-42 in the Vellore jail. She was the receipient of Tamra Patra on 15-8-1972 from the Government of India on the occation of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Indian Independence. 4) Suryadevara annapurnamma She was born in the year 1903 at Veerulapadu, Nandigama taluq, Krishna District. She was resident of Chebrolu, Tenali taluq, daughter of Vasireddi Nagayya and wife of Suryadevara Venkatappayya. She took part in the 1930 Salt Satyagraha Movement and was arrested but released soon. Again she participated in Civil Disobedience Movement and was arrested at Chebrol and sentenced on 26-1-1932 to one year S>I with a fine of Rs.50/-, in default to undergo further two months S.I. She was imprisoned in the Vellore and Cannanore jails. She took part in the 1040 and 1942 Movements and she was also associated with the Join Indian Movement, 1947-48 in the erstwhile Hyderabad State. She was arrested at Yerrupalem, Madhira and was remanded in Madhira jail for one week and sent to Warangal Central jail, from where she was released after c onviction was set aside. She established free schools for girls in Veerulapadu. She was member, Krishna District Board for a long time and also Vice-President, Zilla Parishat, Krishna. 5) Gogineni Bharathi Devi She was born in the year 1908 at Machavaram, Bapatla taluq, Guntur district, resident of Nidubrolu and daughter of Velaga Subbayya, wife of N.G.Ranga. She received early education at Sarada Niketan Guntur. She studied at Ruskin School of Arts, Oxford 1925-26. She conducted for six months, the camp for picketing of foreign cloth at Tenali 1931. She also organised women Satyagrahis of Guntur, West Godavari, and Krishna Districts during the Civil Disobedience Movement 1932 and was sentenced on 2-2-1931 to one year imprisonment and fine of Rs.500/-. She was incarcerated in the Vellore jail and was wounded during the Venkatagiri Zamindari Ryots campaign. She organised Harijan Day celebrations, inter-dining with Harijans and inter caste marriages. She was President, andhra Kisaan Congress 1940-42 and also collected funds for the defence of Madras Kissans in 1940. She was member, Madras State Educational Advisory Committee 1946-47. She Presided over the Andhra Women’s Conference at Ghantasala, Krishna district, 1956 and worked for equal property rights for women. She did considerable service during the Rayalaseema famine 1952-53 by collecting cattle feeds, food grains and clothes and distributed them in the affected areas where she hailed as “Annapurna”. She was elected member A.P. Legislative Council in 1958. She died on September 27, 1972. 6) Leela Naidu Leela Naidu is an Indian actress who has starred in a number of Hindi films as well as some by Merchant Ivory Productions. Her father was the well known nuclear physicst Pattipati Ramaiah Naidu from Chittor Distrcit, Andhra Pradesh while her mother was of Irish origin. In 1954 Leela Naidu was the Femina Miss India. She had very short but impressive acting career. Offers were coming her way but she quit movies to marry (and later divorce) poet Dom Moraes, who was her childhood sweetheart. To be a part of Bollywood,So She joined movies.She made her debut with Rishikesh Mukherji’s Anuradha and got good acclaim for her performances.Later she did Yeh Raaste Hai Pyar Ke with Sunil Dutt.Her choice of films remained limited to rare thinking women’s characters all along.But what Leela Naidu is known for is not just for her sensitive performances in umforgettable films like Yeh Raaste Hain Pyar ke, Anuradha but for the serene grace and statuesque beauty. She died in Mumbai on 28 July 2009. 7) Vasireddy Seetha Devi Dr Vasireddy Seetha Devi is one novelist who is attempting to portray and unfurl the human relations around her with the situations happening in the society through her products. She interlaces the human relations factor with politics, social evils, problems faced by youth along with some solutions generated through her thinking process, shift of culture and tradition in the modern times both in the urban and rural localities. Her pen stroke and thought strength was evident with Seetha Devi receiving Andhra Pradesh Sahitya Academy award five times and Atma Gourava Puraskararam besides many awards and rewards. Mareechika, a novel written by Seetha Devi was banned from publication and circulation by the state government in 1982 for obvious reasons. However, the ban had to be lifted later with the massive agitations held by literary and people’s organisations. The trend set by Dr Seetha Devi’s writings is so, now many students of M. Phil. and Ph.D. are submitting theses on her books to the universities for doctorates. 8) Velagapudi Indira Dutt Smt. V. L. Indira Dutt serves as Joint Managing Director, Executive Director of The KCP Ltd. She Holds B.A (Economics) from Madras University is the Joint Managing Director of the Company. Smt. Ramakrishna Sons Private Limited, She is the Chairperson of SAARC Chamber Women Enterpreneurs Council (SCWEC), A subgroup of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce & Industry. 9) Ms. Rajshree Pathy Rajshree Pathy (54), chairman and managing director of the Rs 500 crore Coimbatore-based Rajshree group of companies, is one of the few women chief executive officers in the country. Importantly, she would be even counted amongst just a handful of CEOs in business families. Started primarily as a textile company, the Rajshree group today has moved into the areas of food and agriculture, financial services, cotton yarn, energy, real estate, automotive and travel. Pajshree Pathy is the daughter of G.Varadhaj,one of the PSG Families engaged in Charities and Education instutions for more than a century.Her father was also a former Rajya Sabha MP.She is married to S.Pathy,brother of ( S.Karivardhan) who heads Lakshmi Mills who is also a popular Horse Breeder. Belonging to a business family, Ms Pathy started involving herself in family business immediately after her graduation in commerce in late 1970s. She and her sister, Jaishree Varadaraj helped their father, Mr G Varadaraj. She is the famous chess player and Chess Grand Master in India and won many International Chess titles. Her January 2010 FIDE Elo rating is 2614, placing her number two in the world for women (behind Judit Polgár). In 2007 she surpassed the rating of 2577 set by Susan Polgar to become the second-highest ranked female player in history. She became the second female player ever, after Judit Polgár, to exceed the 2600 Elo mark. In 2001 she won the World Junior Girls Chess Championship. In 2006 she participated in the Women’s World Chess Championship, but was eliminated in the second round.] In the Women’s World Chess Championship 2008 she made it to the semi-finals, but was beaten by Hou Yifan. In 2009 she tied for 1st-4th with Alexander Areshchenko, Magesh Panchanathan and Evgenij Miroshnichenko in the Mumbai Mayor Cup. Humpi became the youngest Woman International Grandmaster in Asia at 12 years. Humpi is the only girl to win against National Boys under-12 Title in 1999. Humpy is the only Woman Grand Master and also the Youngest in India. She won ‘Arjuna’ award in 2003 and ‘Padma Shri’ award in 2007. 11) Dronavalli Harika Harika was born on 11-Jan-1991 in Vijayawada. She won the under 14 girls title in the World Youth Chess Championship in 2004 – Greece. She is the youngest girl to played in the National ‘A’ Championship when she was 10 years and nine months and aslo the youngest to play in the World cup at the age of 11 years 9 months in 2002. She is the youngest Womens Grand Master in Asia and also she won many National and Asian chess titles. 12) Valuripalli Smitha Smita is from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. In the recent years she has been making waves in the pop music industry. She sings in Telugu and Hindi, while expanding into Tamil, and obviously she can sing in English. Her Masaka Masaka Cheekatilo a very popular Telugu song, a remix of the husky L.R.Eswari’s song, is very popular. Smita has already scored four successful albums — two in Hindi – `Hai rabba’ and `Hai ramma’ and `Koilamma’ and `Hai rabba’ in Telugu. Smita has over sixty playback songs to her credit and she sings pop and also playback for movie music. Smita is very popular for her tremendous stage presence. She can sing and dance and perform will great ease. She was also compiler and Editor for number of dictionaries and glossaries. , Her father, Justice Avula Sambasiva Rao, was Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University from 1980-84. 14) Sailaja Kiron Cherukuri Sailaja Kiron (44), Managing Director of Margadarsi Chit Fund, one of the most successful businesswoman in Hyderabad, and certainly one of the richest, belonging as she does to the Eenadu business house which is into newspaper publishing, TV production, food industry film-making and distribution, handicrafts, and of course, chit business. she joined Margadarsi as Executive Director in 1989. She elected as Vice President of CII – AP chapter in March 2011. 16) Renuka Chowdhury Renuka Chowdhury is an Indian politician and the Former Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ministry of Women and Child Development in the Government of India from January 2006 to May 2009. She recently was authorized by the Congress party to take part in TV debates as their spokesperson. A post-graduate in B.A. Industrial Psychology from Bangalore University, Bangalore, she entered politics in 1984 as a member the Telugu Desam Party. She was a member of the Rajya Sabha for two consecutive terms, from 1986 to 1998. During that period, she was the Chief Whip of the Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party. In 1998, she left the TDP to join the Congress party. She continues to be a member of the Congress party. In 1999 and 2004, she was elected to the 13th and 14th Lok Sabha respectively representing Khammam. She was also the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare from 1997 to 1998 in the cabinet of H. D. Deve Gowda. Other important positions she held include memberships of the Committee on Finance (1999–2000) and Committee on the Empowerment of Women (2000–2001). In the Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance ministry in May 2004, she became Minister of State for Tourism. In the May 2009 Lok Sabha parliamentary elections, Renuka Chowdhury lost from Khammam. 17) Daggubati Purandareswari Daggubati Purandareswari born 22 April 1959. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the South Indian Educational Trust and Women College (Chennai) (renamed as the Bashir Ahmed Sayeed College for Women), followed by a short course in gemmology at the Gemmological Institute of India. Purandeswari is married with Daggubati Venkateswara Rao, an Ex-Minister, Ex-Member of Cabinet and Current Member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly representing Parchoor constituency in Prakasham District. She is the daughter of Late N.T. Ramarao and sister of Telugu film actor Balakrishna. She was first elected to the 14th Lok Sabha from Bapatla parliamentary constituency in Andhra Pradesh in 2004 and successfully completed her full term. Subsequently, she contested the general elections of 2009 from Visakhapatnam parliamentary constituency and became victorious with huge majority of votes. In appreciation of her performance in Parliament, the Asian Age adjudged her as the best Parliamentarian for 2004-’05. she was honoured with an invitation from Mrs. Laura Bush and addressed the White House symposium on ‘Advancing Global Literacy’. 18) Pratima Yarlagadda (Semi-finalist at Miss USA- 1999) Ms. Pratima Yarlagadda, Indian-American from Shipshewana is a 27-year-old law graduate majoring in Communications with a minor in Sociology at Saint Mary’s College-Notre Dame had won Miss Indiana USA 1999, and won the semi-final spot in the Miss USA 99 pageant. She narrowly missed a Finalist spot, finishing 6th overall. Prathima is the first Indian American to reach the top-ten level in the run to this coveted title. Indian Americans, and Telugus in particular, can justifiably be proud of Pratima’s achievement. 19) Kondaveeti Jyothirmaye Jyothirmaye is a rare young classical and light vocalist dedicated to spiritual, nature and social service. Guru Jyothirmaye studied a Post Graduate Level Course in Carnatic Music in TTD and received training as a research scholar in Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam – Annamacharya Project. For having published the world’s great Holy books… Bible, Quran, Indian epics Sri Ramayanam, Sri Mahabharatam, Sri Mahabhagavatam and Annamayya Sankeertanas in Braille for the first time in the world, Guru Jyothirmaye was appreciated and given a place of pride in Limca Book of Records and by Guinness Book of World Records. Kanneganti Rama Devi is founder Member of ALEAP. She has won many awards like Leading women entrepreneur, Best promotional award, Best NGO, Best Women of the Year, Special Honor award. Recent achievement has been that she has been appointed as one of the Task force members in Prime Minister’s Office. 21) Gadde Sindhoora She is 26years old. Vijayawada’s Sindhura Gadde was crowned Miss India World 2005. She entered in to the Semi Finals of the ‘ Miss World 2006′ held in Poland. the in the Sindhura has spent half her time in New Zealand holds a double degree in pharmacology and physiology as well as a diploma in modeling. Cherukuri has spent the past ten years as a high-level advisor to key politicians and decision makers in California Government. In this capacity, she has assisted with formulating and evaluating public safety, education, health, labor, business development, and consumer protection programs in California. Currently, Ms.Cherukuri is Chief of Staff to California State Senator Elaine Alquist who represents Silicon Valley. Born in India and raised in California’s Central Valley, Ms. Cherukuri resides in Sacramento. 23) Sridevi Koneru Sridevi Koneru Rao is a director of Product Management for the Cisco Wireless Technology business unit. She moved into the role in 2010 after returning to the US from 2 years working abroad in India on international assignment for Cisco. In India, she served as the General Manager for the Cisco Wireless Networking Business team while also managing the India-based Wireless Research & Development (R&D) team for Cisco in Bangalore. During that time, she led market development in the Asia Pacific region and grew the India R&D team from 50 – 80 people and then through a merge with another business unit, resulting in a 150-person team. From 2006-2008, while serving as the Director of Engineering for Cisco’s Wireless Networking business unit, she earned her Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Wharton Business School. She is a former member of the Cisco Diversity and Talent Development Board and started the India Connection Network, a Cisco employee-resource group. 24) Rekha Garapati Rekha Garapati is the Director of the IBM India Software Lab Pune, with responsibility for the development & support of IBM Lotus & Tivoli brands. In this role, she leads the second largest development lab for IBM India. She established the first Service Management Excellence Center and Lotus Center for Advanced Collaboration to support AP customers. Rekha has held various leadership positions in IBM software development and strategy prior to this role in the US. Recently as Program Director, she led the High Performance On Demand Solutions (HiPODS) teams in UK, China, Japan, India & Brazil. Rekha has worked closely with several large Fortune 100 companies, with deep expertise in service management, SOA and ERP systems. 25) Madhavi Gavini Ms. Gavini, a senior, has had many discussions on the medicinal properties of herbs with her grandmother and late grandfather who practiced traditional Indian medicine. It was her grandfather who suggested that herbs might help in the treatment of infections. Ms. Gavini has received a number of awards for her scientific work, including the 2006 INTEL Foundation Young Scientist Scholarship and Best of Category in the Medicine and Health at 2006 INEL ISEF.
